Your ‘Attitude to Risk’ – What Does It Mean?
Typically when you had money to invest your adviser (whether bank, building society or Independent) would ask you some simple, straightforward questions on your attitude to risk.

Most of the time this was just to justify what product they were selling you and in some cases advisers would shoe horn you into an investment to justify their advice. In some cases this practice sill happens and it is essential you shop around for the most suitable investment.

At Independent Advisers (Scotland) Ltd whether you have £10,000 to invest or £1,000,000 it is essential that you consider exactly what your intentions are for investing. Your adviser will discuss a risk profile questionnaire (please see example) and this would be the basis for further discussion along with other key areas:

• Looking at your other assets
• Discussing your financial goals
• Your experience with Investments
• Your tax status

We understand the importance of providing you with a choice and flexibility about how to match investments choices to your financial goals. The solutions we provide offer you a range of strategies – whether you want to build a bespoke portfolio or whether you wish to out source to investment experts.

Building Your Own Portfolio
When constructing a portfolio of funds, you have 2 main options when using our Wealth Management Platform:

1. Build a bespoke portfolio of funds for each of your clients.
This is a straightforward process when using our portfolio planning tools but will require greater resource to continually manage each portfolio.

2. Build portfolios for a number of asset allocation models and link you to the portfolio that matches your attitude to risk.
This is also known as building pre-defined portfolios (PDP) and can help to streamline your advice process. IAS bulk switching facility also makes this process much easier to manage for clients with managing investments authority.

Have a portfolio built for you.
The use of risk-rated fund has become increasingly popular as a result of the growing demand for an efficient investment process which focuses on identifying an individual client risk profile and precisely matching a portfolio to this risk profile. Independent Advisers risk rated fund range, Verbatim, effectively offers an off-the-shelf discretionary fund manger solution:

3. Risk-rated funds
IAS Verbatim funds are exclusively available on our platform. This range of six funds can be matched precisely to your risk profile score (risk levels 3 to 8). Verbatim is also rebalanced regularly to ensure the fund stays in line with the desired volatility targets.

Testimonial

No problem at all Alistair, I made the comments with honesty and sincerity. I always believe there are too many people very quick to object or complain, but few take the time or opportunity to pass any favourable comments or give credit where it is due.

It is comforting when a client enjoys such a personal level of service and I have always been impressed how any time we met for an appointment you were always up to speed with our situation and requirements.

As a client I always was made to feel our business was important and in response your advice was always in our best interests. Our meetings have always been relaxed but informative and on the occassions I have called your office, I have enjoyed the same courtesy from other members of staff.

Thanks for your interest and advice.
